Welcome back to Spring Term!
We have had a fantastic two weeks back at school with lots of exciting learning taking place in and out of the classroom. In Science, we have been exploring sound and participated in a sound carousel. We had great fun investigating the effects of vibrating tuning forks in water, banging drums with rice on and speaking into inflated balloons. We learnt that sound is produced when something vibrates and that sounds can travel through water, solids and the air!
In Literacy, we have concluded our learning linked to Roald Dahl's George's Marvellous Medicine. The children have produced some excellent diary entries written from George's point of view and enjoyed their drama lessons where they all had the opportunity to act the role of George's awful grandma!
In maths, we have started our geometry unit. This week, we have been focusing on angles and took part in an exciting angle hunt around the school grounds to identify acute, obtuse and right angles. We have also compared angles and will be learning about the properties of shapes next week.
We have been identifying short and long vowel sounds in words and this has helped us with learning our spellings which all contain double consonants this week.
We played lots of games in class to help us to remember the rules!
Hello and welcome to our class page! We have had a fantastic first week in Year 4...
In Literacy we have been reading a Greek myth called Pandora's Box and the children wowed me with their amazing acting skills in our drama lessons. The class all spoke clearly with loud voices and used great actions to retell the myth.
In Maths we have been looking at number and place value. We have focused on partitioning numbers into thousands, hundreds, tens and ones. We have also used dienes to help us with our learning and have enjoyed linking our maths to PE too!
In Topic, we launched into learning about the Anglo-Saxons. The children have written some fantastic fact files about who they were and why they invaded Britain.
