What is Margaret Wix School Council?
At Margaret Wix we have an elected School Council. Each class elects two children every term to be their class representative. The representatives are there to be the voices of the class and attend School Council meetings.
The School Council meets twice every half term and discusses ideas for improving the school. They also try to raise money for good causes.
If you are a member of Margaret Wix Primary School and you have an idea that you would like the School Council to discuss; then write it on a post-it note and put it it on the display outside Mr Johnston's office.
The School Council Representatives for Each Class Are:
Moonbeams: Mustafa and Isabelle
Emperors: Morgan and Esme
Tortoiseshells: George and Eleanor
Cardinals: George and Abigail
Admirals: Joshua and Imogen
Graylings: Neiv and Layla
Monarchs: Henna and Frankie
School Council Meeting: 27th March
What is Going Well?
The gymnastics equipment is really good and the lessons are fun.
The new outdoor equipment allows more people to play sports.
Every class representative found learning fun and were enjoying the topics they are currently learning.
Everyone is working hard to earn a Golden Paw Print, and it is nice to have rewards for being kind and working hard.
We Could Improve the School by...
Including more current books in the library.
Allowing children lower down the school to access the 40 Book Challenge.
One child left a post-it note on the school council display suggesting a school talent show.
We discussed how this could be beneficial to the local area and decided we could use this as an opportunity to raise money for a local charity. This charity would be voted for by classes.
There could be opportunities for a poster and ticket design competition.
The school council discussed an idea of working together to run a stall, with items made by the representatives. This money could be raised for a local charity or the school.
Keep your eyes peeled, both online and in school, for more information regarding the possibility of a talent show and a school council stall at the summer fete.
The next meeting will take place on 27th March.
Let your school council representative know if you have any issues that you would like us to discuss!
Here are some pictures of the different changes that have been made to outdoor equipment at Margaret Wix.
Some pupils at Margaret Wix have given their opinions on the new rewards.
‘The golden paw print is a good idea because you get to play with Maggie.’
‘The post cards are good idea because your parents get to know how you are doing at school.’
‘The toast treat was delicious.’
School Council Meeting: 5th February
Well done for first school council meeting last term. All school improvement ideas, which were discussed in the last meeting, were shared with Mr Johnston.
Have you noticed any changes in school since our last meeting? Which of these changes have you liked/disliked?
Negative parts of the Behaviour chart are not being used anymore. The children like this and feel more motivated with the rewards they can receive instead. The children all agreed that they like the addition of the golden paw prints and postcards home. Most classes have table points and the children all agreed that this has a positive impact on the class as they want to win for their table and receive the different rewards on offer.
Year 3 enjoyed their most improved attendance prize. They were a little upset that they couldn’t have white bread but understood the healthier benefits of eating brown bread.
Everyone was very impressed with the basketball/netball equipment being added to the playground.
Are there anymore improvements that you think we can make to the school?
A school raincoat/hoodie
A school sleep-over
More space available in clubs
More table points awarded
The school council members are going to speak to each of their classes about getting children to add any ideas to improve the school, to be addressed at the next school council meeting.
