Welcome back to Summer Term 2! In literacy we have been reading The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. The story has completely hooked the whole class and as a result, the quality of written work produced by the children has been fantastic! We created giant clay figures of the Iron Man in pairs to help us bring our character descriptions to life. Next, we developed our inference and deduction skills by using clues in the text to find out more about the key characters. Last week the children wrote brilliant diary entries from Hogarth’s point of view and this week we learnt how to use inverted commas accurately by writing our own conversations between Hogarth and the colossal giant. The class also developed their speech and language skills by creating their own news broadcasts about the terrifying Space Bat Angel Dragon landing on Australia!
Welcome back to Summer term! In science we have continued our learning on teeth and the digestive system. Just before the Easter break, we created 3d models of teeth using plasticine - the kids LOVED this activity and their models are fantastic and very realistic! We then went onto writing about the functions of each tooth and created informative posters.
This week, we planned and carried out a fair test. We tested the effects of different drinks on eggshells to investigate tooth decay. The results were EGGxtremely surprising and really opened our eyes up to how important it is to keep our teeth healthy!
In Literacy, we have really enjoyed reading Gregory Cool by Caroline Binch. The whole class have produced some fantastic writing including informal letters, setting descriptions and explanation texts. Take a look through the photos below!
Welcome back to Spring Term!
We have had a fantastic two weeks back at school with lots of exciting learning taking place in and out of the classroom. In Science, we have been exploring sound and participated in a sound carousel. We had great fun investigating the effects of vibrating tuning forks in water, banging drums with rice on and speaking into inflated balloons. We learnt that sound is produced when something vibrates and that sounds can travel through water, solids and the air!
In Literacy, we have concluded our learning linked to Roald Dahl's George's Marvellous Medicine. The children have produced some excellent diary entries written from George's point of view and enjoyed their drama lessons where they all had the opportunity to act the role of George's awful grandma!
In maths, we have started our geometry unit. This week, we have been focusing on angles and took part in an exciting angle hunt around the school grounds to identify acute, obtuse and right angles. We have also compared angles and will be learning about the properties of shapes next week.
We have been identifying short and long vowel sounds in words and this has helped us with learning our spellings which all contain double consonants this week.
We played lots of games in class to help us to remember the rules!
Hello and welcome to our class page! We have had a fantastic first week in Year 4...
In Literacy we have been reading a Greek myth called Pandora's Box and the children wowed me with their amazing acting skills in our drama lessons. The class all spoke clearly with loud voices and used great actions to retell the myth.
In Maths we have been looking at number and place value. We have focused on partitioning numbers into thousands, hundreds, tens and ones. We have also used dienes to help us with our learning and have enjoyed linking our maths to PE too!
In Topic, we launched into learning about the Anglo-Saxons. The children have written some fantastic fact files about who they were and why they invaded Britain.
