Margaret Wix Primary School

Hertfordshire Eco Competition

There is a very exciting Eco competition happening across Hertfordshire this term for year 6 students and our very own Monarchs class submitted a fantastic draft plan for their version of 'What should an eco school look like by 2030?'

We entered the first round of the competition at the end of September, and will find out on Friday 11th October whether we've been shortlisted for the second round! If this happens, the children will have to actually create a 3D model of their eco school plan, and put forth a presentation which further explains their vision to a panel of external judges! The winners will be announced in early December and will win £2000 for the school to use for eco initiatives. It's all VERY exciting. Watch this space for updates!

End of term update:

We were shortlisted for the presentation and had to perform in front of an external panel of judges! The children were brilliant - confidently speaking about their model and answering lots of questions (some that we were not prepared for!) about eco initiatives in school.

Unfortunately we didn't make the final cut and despite being disappointed, the children are happy with their certificates and we also won a selection of wildflower seeds to plant this spring! We will be using some of our ideas from the 3D eco model and will plant the seeds in planters outside the year 6 classroom.

Unfortunately we didn't make it through to the
