Margaret Wix Primary School

Home PE

Welcome to the Margaret Wix home PE page. Home PE is our weekly initiative to keep our children active throughout the school week. Physical activity guidelines for children and young people recommend 2 types of activity each week. These are aerobic exercise and exercises to strengthen their muscles and bones.

Children and young people aged 5 to 18 should:

  • aim for an average of at least 60 minutes of moderate or vigorous intensity physical activity a day across the week
  • take part in a variety of types and intensities of physical activity across the week to develop movement skills, muscles and bones
  • reduce the time spent sitting or lying down and break up long periods of not moving with some activity. Aim to spread activity throughout the day

Moderate intensity activities will raise your heart rate, and make you breathe faster and feel warmer. One way to tell if you're working at a moderate intensity level is if you can still talk, but not sing. Children and young people should do a range of different activities across the week. Examples include; walking to school or walking the dog, playground activities, including jumping, running and catching, physical education, sports, like football or tennis, skipping, dancing or cycling.

With this in mind we will announce a weekly activity in our celebration assembly for the children to complete over the next seven days at home. The activities will be varied, fun and can be completed individually or with other members of the household. We would love you to join in!

We have asked the children to record their activity by taking a photo of the exercise being completed and emailing it to homepe@margaretwix.herts.sch.uk along with any details of how their personal best scores have improved over the course of the week. We will recognise outstanding achievements in our celebration assembly. One student will also be selected at the end of each term for their efforts in home PE and will receive a £50 voucher to spend on sportswear or equipment.
