Year 6 visit Parliament

Year six have had a wonderful - if rather wet - day in London today. We had a tour of Parliament this morning and were lucky enough to see the procession of the speaker of the house with the ceremonial mace. We found out how bills are debated and can become laws through parliamentary ping pong between the House of Commons and the House of Lords. We were amazed by the incredible architecture, saw the throne King Charles sits on and found out that, at one point, we were stood above the cellars in which Guy Fawkes tried to carry out the gunpowder plot! After lunch, we walked past some of London’s iconic monuments and landmarks, including Downing Street and Buckingham Palace. The children were brilliantly behaved all day and, as always, we were so proud of them - taking them on a trip was a real pleasure!
