Crazy hair day was a roaring success! The children at Margaret Wix Primary School loved sporting some totally whacky hair styles today in order to raise money for a great cause: local homeless charity, Open Door. Well done to Elouise, Felicia, Sofia, Amal and Sofia for organising this charity event as part of their Junior Citizenship Challenge.
We enjoyed having the Dog’s Trust visit us in KS1 and KS2 throughout today. We found out how to behave around dogs, when to leave them alone and give them space, and how to be safe and kind towards dogs. It was interesting to find out that smell is a dog’s strongest sense and that they can even smell how we are feeling! This means we can choose to interact carefully with dogs by giving them chance to sniff and smell first before we engage with them
Emperors were ever so lucky to have some special visitors in today. Ismaeel and Ayesha’s mums came into our class to tell us a bit more about Muslim prayer after our unit of work last half term. They shared so much knowledge including recapping the names of the 5 Pillars of Islam, the name for prayer (salat), the reasons why prayer is so important and how they fit it in to their daily lives. We had a look at some of the items they use, and we all got to try some dates, the deliciously sweet fruit used to break fast during Ramadan. It is always wonderful to have people come into share their own faiths and experiences. Thank you so much ladies for a well organised and beautifully delivered talk.
We had some slightly different guests come to visit Year 1 and 2 today as we spent the afternoon with ZooLab who brought an exciting and intriguing range of creatures and critters to look at and even touch! The children were fabulously well behaved as they met Turbo the snail, Rosie the tarantula, Echo the gecko, Michelle the the cockroach, Nippy the scorpion (who glows under UV light!) and Slinky the snake
Margaret Wix learned how to stay safe online this week as part of Safer Internet Day 2023! Look at some of the wonderful things we got up to and the amazing learning that took place.
The Charity Committee were fantastic this afternoon: they used real-life maths skills to expertly run our cake sale, performing quick mental calculations under pressure. Together, they raised an amazing £167.10 for the NSPCC!
With the donations for dressing up in digits, and the PTFA’s drinks sale, we are sure that total will be nearer £200 in the end. Thank you to all who donated!
What a treat it has been to open our doors and share our maths lessons with parents and carers this week! The children enjoyed involving you in their learning and we hope that you found it a valuable hour, getting to know the expectations of your children and seeing, first hand, how they access learning in class.
