Monarchs are enjoying a fantastic morning at St Albans Fire Station on their Crucial Crew trip. The trip is a great opportunity for the children to learn how to keep themselves and others safe in a range of scenarios, which is especially important as they grow in independence. Today, the children have: identified hazards in and around water; explored possible causes of fire in the home; found out how alcohol affects perception and judgment; learned how to put someone in the recovery position and much more. We were pleased to hear the staff commenting on the children’s good behaviour and mentioning what great representatives of Margaret Wix they were!
What an amazing treat this afternoon from The Electric Umbrella Company! We loved joining in with their singing and dancing and have all gone home singing about how there is no such thing as normal! Please take time to speak to your children about the show.
The phonics workshop for parents and carers from Firetips is well under way. It began with a phonics disco, which got everyone going on a Monday morning and then we played various games like the ones children would play in class. Everyone is lucky enough to get packs to take away to help support their child at home. Thank you to all our families for coming and Mrs Ralph and Miss S for presenting such useful information.
Headteacher for the day! Veera earned her position as headteacher for the day because she completed all the Junior Citizenship challenges last year and then she was selected! She has helped at Celebration Assembly, taught in Year 6, led a school tour and taken pictures of children making the right choices. All of this so far! This afternoon, she will blow the whistle on the playground, interview a candidate and much, much more...it's busy being a headteacher!
Our littlest learners have had so much fun at Little City this morning using their imaginations to become doctors, vets, post office assistants, shopkeepers, hairdressers and policemen/ women! What a fantastic experience for them and what a wonderful way to develop oracy skills.
