Admirals and Monarchs were fortunate enough to have a visit from Cathy Reay this afternoon, an author promoting her new book ‘How to be Disabled and Proud: (Or At Least Kinda Sorta OK With It)’ and what a talk it was! Cathy gave some funny and brave insights into what it was like for her growing up with a disability and how it impacted her life as a teenager and adult. She talked about the importance of accepting yourself for who you are (because everyone is awesome and unique!), a bit about disability history, how to learn from experiences (written by other disabled adults), how to advocate for disabled people without crossing their boundaries and how to learn more about some of the barriers disabled people face. A truly inspiring talk; if you or your child is interested in purchasing Cathy’s book, you can do so from Waterstones in St Albans, where lots of them have been signed!
