Rabbi Zvi Solomons “visited” us this afternoon to talk about Hanukkah. He explained that the Jewish festival commemorates the recovery of Jerusalem. He told us that the Maccabees successfully revolted, capturing a temple and the menora that was inside. They had little oil, but a miracle happened and the oil lasted 8 days meaning the lamp was lit for much longer than expected. This is why Hanukkah is also known as the Festival of Light. It is fantastic to meet people of different faiths and learn about their special celebrations!
