  • International Celebrations!

    A Celebration of Culture

Mrs Gibbs and Miss Abbott have taken part in equality, diversity and inclusion training this year called Great Representation, which inspired our Celebration of Culture but has also had a huge impact on our school generally - this can be seen in the video linked here.

International Week 2023 was a huge success and involved: trips to Christ Church; watching a French play; learning about different countries and cultures, and more! The week culminated in a fantastic celebration during which children shared what they had learned, our choir sung a song about working together to be the change we hope to see in the world, parents and carers contributed to an incredible international food fair, and displayed in our outdoor gallery were collages created by every child in school that reflect their culture.

Attending the event were Rachel Macfarlane (Director of Education in Hertfordshire) and Dr Michael Catchpool (School Effectiveness Advisor) who said it was “such an uplifting end to the week” and that they were “truly moved to see the impact of the Great Representation programme on this wonderful school community.”

Hertfordshire Early Years Advisor, Natasha Da Silva, also said it was “inspirational” and “an honour to join the staff and families to celebrate.”

  • French play at Townsend!

    Mon 26 Jun 2023

Monarchs enjoyed a trip up to Townsend this morning to watch a French play! It was great to immerse ourselves in the language and hear it spoken fluently in the amusing play. Luckily, the actors provided lots of visual clues and context that helped us to follow what was happening. The children represented Margaret Wix brilliantly and we are especially proud of some of our children who put their hands up to answer questions in French in front of the children from Townsend!

  • Visit to local church

    Mon 26 Jun 2023

Year 5 had a great time at Christ Church this afternoon. We have been learning all about how Christians show commitment to their God. The children showed great curiosity whilst posing questions to the Reverend and were respectful when listening to Christian belief. We even got our own tour of the building!

  • Champions in Sport!

    Thu 22 Jun 2023

What a brilliant afternoon we had at District Sports! We are feeling super proud of all our athletes who represented Margaret Wix superbly, showing lots of self-belief, resilience and respect for others in the way they competed and cheered their teammates on.

Juan, Duchess, Rose, Thomas and Jeremi made the finals of their individual sprint events and the year 3/4 boys relay team made the final too.

We are so proud to announce that Rose came third in the the year 5 girls’ sprint and that Duchess WON! Jeremi is also a St Albans district CHAMPION after winning the year 3 boys’ sprint! What amazing achievements!

  • Legoland Visit

    Wed 14 Jun 2023

The children loved their trip to Legoland, learning about sustainability, going on rides and so much more...

Alex - I loved the Ninjago ride because it made me feel like I had superpowers. We built an EcoTown out of Lego and I put wind turbines in mine. We learnt how they are sustainable in Science week.

Kayden - We found out that a famous singer (Gary Barlow) has a dance floor in his house that generates electricity when you move on it. My favourite part of the day was the Flight of the Sky Lion ride. It felt like we were really flying!

Kayla - I really liked driving the Lego cars and I got a driving license. It was cool when we turned the lights out and saw our EcoTowns glow after we had built them.

Zaheera - We tried to include a river in the EcoTown we built with Lego . My team thought about making electricity with waterpower. I really loved driving the Lego Cars and the last ride made us all scream out loud!

Veda - I liked seeing the red pandas that were in the tree. I also enjoyed seeing the giraffes because they were so tall. It reminded me of South Africa.
